IT Network Field Technician

Position Title: IT Network Field Technician (1099 Contractor)

Role Overview:
The IT Network Field Technician (1099) is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of low-voltage network infrastructure across commercial and industrial client sites. This contract role involves running and terminating copper (CAT5e/CAT6/CAT6A) and fiber optic cabling, installing network hardware such as racks, patch panels, and switches, and performing testing to ensure network connectivity for data, voice, and video systems.

Technicians in this role are expected to work independently on-site, communicate professionally with clients, follow safety and quality standards, and complete accurate documentation for every assignment.

Key Responsibilities:

Install, route, and terminate copper and fiber cabling to industry and client standards.

Install and secure network infrastructure equipment, including racks, cabinets, patch panels, and switches.

Perform cable testing, labeling, documentation, and certification as required.

Troubleshoot network connectivity, hardware, or wiring issues.

Conduct site surveys to assess cabling pathways, material needs, and scope requirements.

Maintain clean and safe work areas and adhere to all job site safety protocols.

Submit required job documentation (check-ins, photos, test results, work summaries, etc.) promptly after each assignment.

Contract Requirements:

Must provide your own basic hand tools, drills, PPE, smartphone, and reliable transportation.

Ability to travel to client sites within assigned coverage region.

Ability to lift 50+ lbs, work on ladders, overhead, or in tight spaces when required.

Must maintain professional appearance and conduct at all client sites.

Preferred Experience & Skills:

Previous experience with structured cabling, low-voltage installation, or network hardware setup.

Familiarity with cable certifiers, tone and probe testers, and network troubleshooting tools.

Ability to read floor plans, riser diagrams, or basic technical drawings.

Working knowledge of network patching, switch ports, and basic IP networking concepts.

Preferred Certifications (not required):

BICSI Installer Certification

CompTIA Network+

OSHA 10 or OSHA 30

Manufacturer-specific cabling certifications

Contract Type & Compensation:

1099 Independent Contractor

Pay varies by assignment, skill level, and project scope.

Payment is issued upon approval of completed work orders and required documentation.

Note: This role is classified as an independent contractor position. Contractors are responsible for their own tax withholdings, insurance coverage, transportation costs, and business expenses.
